Please be aware that our parish is NOT sending anyone door to door appealing for funds or clothing for a sick child or for any other purpose, nor do we solicit assistance for ourselves or any one else online in purchasing gift cards.  Please be aware of these and many scams around the current pandemic.  Delete the email!

Cardinal Tobin has presented a three-phased plan for gradual reopening of parishes.  The entire plan may be found on the archdiocesan website www.rcan.org.  For our local parish plans, please see "Church Reopening" under the Documents & Forms tab.  We are now open every day for three hours for private prayer from 12 noon to 3pm.  The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed prior to opening the doors at 12noon, and reposed after everyone has left at 3pm. Please observe the time limits and areas of the church that are restricted.  For the full list of requirements, please go to "Church Visit Requirements" under the Documents and Forms tab.  Use the hand sanitizer, wear a mask, stay six feet apart from others.   With Governor Murphy's extension of the Stay at Home Executive Order until June 6th, we do not expect to be holding any Masses, Funerals, Baptisms, or other major Sacramental Celebrations in our church until at least that time.  We will continue to update you as time goes forward.  All previously arranged sacramental events will be rescheduled once we have a better idea of our entire reopening process.

Confessions have now begun, from 1pm to 2pm daily except Sunday, in the church.  For the necessary procedures to follow, please go to Documents and Forms on our home page and click Confession during Covid-19, as well as Confession Guidelines.  On days when the weather is favorable and a third priest is available, we will also hold Confessions in the Grotto behind the Parish Life Center during the same time period.  Please go to Documents and Forms to see the instructions for "Confessions in the Grotto."

What is still permitted is the streaming of Mass on social media platforms. We continue to maintain a virtual presence on Facebook (sjrcbergenfield) and Instagram (sjrcbergenfield). We are streaming Mass daily at 9am in English and 10am in Spanish on Facebook, and posting a daily reflection on both Facebook and on Instagram.  If you don't have a Facebook account, you can use this link (on a computer or laptop but not on a cell phone): https://www.facebook.com/sjrcbergenfield/ and watch the live stream or click on "videos" to see past Masses, or use the link at the bottom of our home page for both Facebook and Instagram.   We are also streaming the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily at 3:00pm.  Permission to stream the music in the Sunday Masses or other special Services has been obtained from One License with license #A-733513.  We are making available just inside the church entrance copies of this year's English and Spanish missalettes.  We ask you take one per family, so that you will have the prayers, readings, and music for more fully participating in the Sunday liturgies at home.  The June edition of The Word Among Us is also available there.

Please see "An Act of Spiritual Communion" prayer in the Documents & Forms section.  This may be prayed personally or at the time of communion on the streamed Mass.

Please monitor this page for updates as they are available. Additionally, you can sign up for our Constant Contact messaging system by using the "Join our Email LIst"  link at the bottom of the home page.  You will then receive regular updates automatically.

Archdiocesan Catholic Cemeteries has eased their restrIctions on visits to their cemeteries, as well as for particIpants at funerals.  For the entire explanation, go to "Catholic Cemeteries Update" under the Documents and Forms Tab.

Of course, the parish continues to depend on the generosity of its people for financial support, and I am grateful for those who are sustaining us.  Not only are we missing the bulk of our weekly Sunday collection, but the Easter collection was always a major support at this time of year.  Consider online giving (go to Parish Giving on this website's home page) or mailing your weekly collection envelopes to the rectory.  The Archdiocese has worked with Go Fund Me to set up donation pages for each parish.  Our parish link is https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/st-john-the-evangelist-ch-bergenfield.  Please see the "Parish Giving & Go Fund Me letter" in the documents and forms section of our parish website for more information.  Rice bowls and offering envelopes may be dropped off in the rectory vestibule daily between 9am and 6pm, where you will also find the Easter edition of The Word Among Us.

Otherwise, the rectory office will be closed until further notice.  If you have a need, please call or email.   The Opening of the 2021 Mass book has been postponed.  A new date will be announced after the current Coronavirus threat passes.

For a thoughtful article, "A Faith Response to the Coronavirus," please go to the Document & Forms tab.

Please see our Parish Financial Statement for 2019 in the Documents section of our website.

All parishioners are asked to respond directly by mail to Cardinal Tobin with their pledge for the 2020 Shining the Light of Christ Annual Appeal.  Your gifts help many ministries in the Archdiocese which also assist our parish. Any amount over our $106,901 goal will be returned directly to the parish.

As information continues to be revealed about the clergy members credibly accused of sexual misconduct with youth, in our archdiocese and our state, please consult the website https://healing.rcan.org for the latest official information and a list of resources in response to this issue.

Adults seeking entrance into the Catholic Church from other denominations or no denomination, as well as adult Catholics who have not received First Penance, First Communion, or Confirmation, are invited to contact Deacon Jim or Fr. Jonathan about the process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  The formation program is held on Sunday mornings throughout the year in English and in Spanish.  Inquiries are always welcome.  The unbaptized may enter the two-year cycle at any time.  The already baptized must begin between October and November for sacraments the following Spring.

Our parish provides support groups for moms and for dads of children with disabilities, and celebrates an Inclusive Family Mass on the first Sunday of each month - October through June - at 1:30pm.  Our Religious Education program also provides religious instruction and sacramental preparation for children with disabilities on Tuesday evenings.  The Moms meet monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and the Dads monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, both at 7:30pm in the Parish Life Center, between September and June.  Contact Deacon Jim at the rectory or Rosemarie Flood at the Religious Education Office for more information.
