WINDOW

Please open our Sunday, August 16th bulletin and read the Pastor's Desk there.  It offers an update about our "ALL for St. John's" project during the month of August.  Since we cannot have our annual Carnival or Giant 50-50 Raffle this year, I am inviting each family to consider giving, instead of the $20 you would give with a book of 50-50 tickets with the hope of perhaps winning a portion of the prize, to give the entire $20 directly to our parish which can surely use it "ALL for St. John's."  There are envelopes at the church doors but any envelope will do.  If 500 families gave $20, our parish would have gained $10,000.00!

Also, we announce the opening of the 2021 Mass book, done only by mail this year.  See the form under Documents and Forms.

Cardinal Tobin has authorized Phase 3 of our Archdiocesan reopening plan which permits Sunday Masses as well as daily Masses, funerals and weddings with limited capacity.   To reserve a seat in church for any Mass, click the "reserve a Seat for Mass" icon on our home page and follow the directions. Baptisms also began as of Sunday, July 12th at 3:00pm.  All the details for our parish may be found under the Document and Forms tab on our home page, under "Newsletter June 12", including instructions for how to register for Mass, which will be a necessity for awhile.  Use the hand sanitizer, wear a mask, stay six feet apart from others.   We will continue to update you as time goes forward.

Confessions for now will continue from 1pm to 2pm on Saturdays only, in the church, and in the Grotto when the weather is favorable.  For the necessary procedures to follow, please go to Documents and Forms on our home page and click "Confessions during Covid-19" and "Confessions in the Grotto."

We continue to maintain a virtual presence on Facebook (sjrcbergenfield) and Instagram (sjrcbergenfield). We are now streaming Mass on Sunday at 11am in English and 1pm in Spanish on Facebook, and posting a daily reflection on both Facebook and on Instagram.  If you don't have a Facebook account, you can use this link (on a computer or laptop but not on a cell phone): https://www.facebook.com/sjrcbergenfield/videos and watch the live stream or click on "videos" to see past Masses, or use the link at the bottom of our home page for both Facebook and Instagram.   Permission to stream the music in the Sunday Masses or other special Services has been obtained from One License with license #A-733513.  We are making available just inside the church entrance copies of this year's English and Spanish missalettes.  We ask you take one per family, so that you will have the prayers, readings, and music for more fully participating in the Sunday liturgies at home or in church.  The July-August edition of The Word Among Us is also available there.

Please see "An Act of Spiritual Communion" prayer in the Documents & Forms section.  This may be prayed personally or at the time of communion on the streamed Mass.

Please monitor this page for updates as they are available. Additionally, you can sign up for our Constant Contact messaging system by using the "Join our Email LIst"  link at the bottom of the home page.  You will then receive regular updates automatically.

Of course, the parish continues to depend on the generosity of its people for financial support, and I am grateful for those who are sustaining us.  Not only are we missing the bulk of our weekly Sunday collection, but the Easter collection was always a major support at this time of year.  Consider online giving (go to Parish Giving on this website's home page) or mailing your weekly collection envelopes to the rectory.  The Archdiocese has worked with Go Fund Me to set up donation pages for each parish.  Our parish link is https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/st-john-the-evangelist-ch-bergenfield.  Please see the "Parish Giving & Go Fund Me letter" in the documents and forms section of our parish website for more information.  Rice bowls and offering envelopes may be dropped off in the rectory vestibule daily between 9am and 6pm, where you will also find the Easter edition of The Word Among Us.

Otherwise, the rectory office will be closed until further notice.  If you have a need, please call or email.   The Opening of the 2021 Mass book has been postponed.  A new date will be announced after the current Coronavirus threat passes.  We currently have daily Mass intentions open within the next month or so.

For a thoughtful article, "A Faith Response to the Coronavirus," please go to the Document & Forms tab.

Please see our Parish Financial Statement for 2019 in the Documents section of our website.

All parishioners are asked to respond directly by mail to Cardinal Tobin with their pledge for the 2020 Shining the Light of Christ Annual Appeal.  Your gifts help many ministries in the Archdiocese which also assist our parish. Any amount over our $106,901 goal will be returned directly to the parish.

As information continues to be revealed about the clergy members credibly accused of sexual misconduct with youth, in our archdiocese and our state, please consult the website https://healing.rcan.org for the latest official information and a list of resources in response to this issue.

Adults seeking entrance into the Catholic Church from other denominations or no denomination, as well as adult Catholics who have not received First Penance, First Communion, or Confirmation, are invited to contact Deacon Jim or Fr. Jonathan about the process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  The formation program is held on Sunday mornings throughout the year in English and in Spanish.  Inquiries are always welcome.  The unbaptized may enter the two-year cycle at any time.  The already baptized must begin between October and November for sacraments the following Spring.

Our parish provides support groups for moms and for dads of children with disabilities, and celebrates an Inclusive Family Mass on the first Sunday of each month - October through June - at 1:30pm.  Our Religious Education program also provides religious instruction and sacramental preparation for children with disabilities on Tuesday evenings.  The Moms meet monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and the Dads monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, both at 7:30pm in the Parish Life Center, between September and June.  Contact Deacon Jim at the rectory or Rosemarie Flood at the Religious Education Office for more information.

TRANSFIGURATION ACADEMY was our outstanding academic and spiritual institution for learning, a 2018 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The Archdiocese has closed the Academy effective August 31, 2020, due to inability to fund the shortfall between tuition, fund-raising, and actual cost to operate. For more information, see their website  www.transfigurationacademy.org.   Our Bergenfield campus at 10 Bradley Ave. (201-384-3627) hosted all grades (pre-k 2+ through grade 8).

Designated members of our parish are bringing the Good News of God's Love to our community by visiting homes in various sections of our parish from time to time.  They are registered with the Bergenfield Police.  Please welcome them when they come to your door.
